Certification of Safety Management System

At the shipowners choice, either Maritime Safety Inspectorate of Maritime Administration of Latvia or its recognized classification society carries out supervision of implementation of requirements of ISM Code on vessels involved in international shipping with gross tonnage 500 and over, and on passenger vessels, and their shipping companies. Supervision of cabotage vessels of gross tonnage 500 and over and passenger ships as well as their shipping companies is carried out only by Maritime Administration of Latvia.
To make sure the requirements of ISM Code or Regulation (EC) No 336/2006 are fulfilled, Maritime Safety Inspectorate of Maritime Administration of Latvia or a classification society carries out verification of the safety management system at the company and on its vessels in accordance with requirements of IMO Resolution A.1118(30) “Revised guidelines on the implementation of the ISM Code by Administrations” and issues or approves relevant certificates.

Further information on safety management system verification process can be obtained in Maritime Safety Inspectorate or in the recognized classification societies.
