Inspections

Inspections before registration

Before registering of the recreational craft in the Latvian Ship Register, the owner submits the documents of the recreational craft to the Maritime Safety Inspectorate. Based on these documents, the Maritime Safety Inspectorate carries out an initial inspection of the recreational craft before registration. During the inspection, the technical condition of the recreational craft and the compliance of the equipment with the requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 27 of 12 January 2016 “Regulations on the Construction, Conformity Assessment and Offering on the Market of Recreational Crafts and Jet Skis” and the Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 201 of 25 March 2008 “Regulations on the Safety of Recreational Crafts” are checked, depending on the intended use of the recreational craft and the navigational category.

Recreational crafts intended for commercial use are issued a Certificate of Seaworthiness of the Recreational Craft after registration.

Periodic inspections

Recreational crafts intended for commercial use are subject to periodic inspection every two years for the purpose of endorsing the Certificate of Seaworthiness. During the inspection, the technical condition of the recreational craft and the compliance of the equipment with the requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 201 of 25 March 2008 “Regulations on the Safety of Recreational Crafts” are checked.
